The logistics division of MCG Construction has 7 apprentices who are currently working within the business while studying for a range of construction focused qualifications.
This week, during National Apprenticeship Week (8-12 February), we caught up with Ameena Yasmin Ahmed who is currently completing her apprenticeship scheme with MCG Construction.
How did you hear about this apprenticeship?
I heard about the apprenticeship opportunities through WorkPath, which is an employment service for all Tower Hamlets residents, providing support for people at all levels of work, skill or experience.
What attracted you to the apprenticeship route rather than working/university?
The ability to be learning on the job and expanding my knowledge and experience in a new industry.
What qualifications are you currently working towards?
I currently working towards a Logistics Site Management qualification.
What attracted you to the construction industry?
I’ve always had an interest in construction and the work that goes on behind the scenes to help build communities. From the earlier stages of bidding for land or contracts, right up to the handover stages of completed building works.
What has been your favourite part of the apprenticeship so far?
Being able to work in such a male dominated industry plus knowing that I will have the space to grow and learn, all while earning a wage.
