Following Aidan’s recent return to MCG as Pre-Construction Logistics Manager, we’re sharing more about his journey into construction logistics.

There’s no single route into this industry. At MCG, our team members have found their way into construction through different experiences, backgrounds and opportunities. As part of our Pathways into Logistics series, we’re sharing those stories.

Finding Direction

“When I left college, I didn’t have a clear direction.”

Aidan’s introduction to construction wasn’t planned. He spent six months labouring on site, gaining first-hand exposure to how projects operate day to day.

That early experience gave him an appreciation for the coordination, timing and problem-solving required behind the scenes.

He then joined Mace Logistics as a Contract Administrator, managing the Delivery Management System, and that’s where his interest in construction logistics really began to take shape.

Building the Foundation

After a further eight months on site in his new role, Aidan moved into a Construction Visualiser role.

Over the next four and a half years, he developed his logistics planning skills, learning how to interpret site constraints, understand programme pressures and support operational teams with practical, workable solutions.

“That period shaped how I approach pre-construction logistics today.”

It laid the foundation for the structured, strategic mindset he now brings to projects.

Stepping Away - And Realising Where He Belonged

Aidan later stepped away from construction logistics to develop his AutoCAD skills as a draughtsman within a stone masonry business.

Although he enjoyed the technical side of the role, stepping away brought clarity.

“It made me realise that logistics, strategy, coordination and problem solving, is where I belong.”

Sometimes stepping back reinforces exactly what drives you.

Why Early Planning Matters

Today, as Pre-Construction Logistics Manager at MCG, Aidan focuses on early-stage strategy, supporting bids, engaging with clients and shaping logistics proposals that positively influence programme, compliance and stakeholder coordination.

One of the biggest lessons he’s learned?

“How critical early logistics planning is to a project’s success.”

When logistics is considered from the outset, it supports programme certainty, commercial control and safer site delivery. A robust strategy at pre-construction stage can have lasting operational and financial impact.

Advice for Anyone Considering Logistics

“Logistics sits at the centre of every construction project.”

For those unsure where to begin within construction, Aidan sees logistics as a strong entry point. It provides visibility across commercial, operational and planning functions, offering a broad skill base that can evolve in many directions.

“You might just fall in love with it and decide to stay, like I did.”
