We are recruiting for a leading Facilities Management Contractor looking to add an Assistant Survey Manager to their team!

Area/Location - Waterloo, London

Salary -£30000 to £40000

Purpose of the Role-

Reporting to the Survey Manager, the Assistant Survey Manager role safely and efficiently plan & deliver the full scope of survey works as defined in the survey strategy and survey specifications. Will report on the lifecycle of all Pre-Construction surveys allowing for efficient use of resource and continuous improvement across Pre-Construction works.

The Assistant Survey Manager will proactively engage with the Survey Manager and Lead Construction Manager to inform progress and ensure the safe, timely and quality output for the Surveys relevant to packages of works across the SMDF Framework. You will work closely with our customers, stakeholders, design partners, supplier partners, and our delivery teams to deliver surveys safely that are of a high quality, within the financial targets set and in line with agreed programmes.

Where applicable the Assistant Survey Manager will work towards Responsible Manager status and take lead when nominated as Survey Lead for packages of work.

A Few Key Responsibilities of the Role-

  • Putting safety, health and wellbeing at the heart of decision making; asking, listening and responding, creating an environment
  • Undertake weekly survey reporting to provide accurate information to the team on; the progress of surveys undertaken in the previous week, the health status of the survey planning for the upcoming weeks, the resource requirements for the surveys in the upcoming weeks as well as any key trends that need focus to continuously improve the performance of surveys for all Stage 1 works
  • Form close relationships with other teams and survey supply chain to ensure that we share resources, innovation, and process to ensure we deliver as one.
  • Visiting and interacting with site survey teams to ensure lessons are learnt and solutions are deliverable
  • Attend progress meetings that they are attended by the appropriate personnel and information is presented clearly and professionally
  • Present weekly survey reporting at team meeting on a Monday
  • Encourage the use of BIM, technology and IT to improve efficiency.
  • Identifying new thinking and innovation through collaboration on survey planning & delivery and implementing it successfully.
  • Ensure Surveys are to programme and budget whilst not compromising on safety.

Survey Start-up

  • When nominated by the Survey Manager to arrange and attend survey scope and project kick-off meetings including initial site walkover and ensure that the correct personnel are attending site to form accurate Survey Specifications
  • Attend Survey Strategy meetings with Pre-Construction and Development Managers to safely plan Survey activities

Survey Planning

  • Ensure Development Surveys are delivered safely in accordance with Rail Procedures, Legislation To check & review that the planning of surveys and site investigations are planned as such to not be detrimental to the environment or lineside neighbours
  • To fulfil the role of the Survey lead where development teams require support
  • Booking Track access opportunities with solid understanding of safe systems of work
  • Responsible for the allocation of resource levels for Development Surveys
  • To check & review that all surveys fully assess risk and that these risks are openly discussed within the teams in order to gain Construction CRE approval.
  • To check & review each GoNoGo for all Stage 1 site works has been suitably produced and populated and to escalate to the Survey Manager if this has not been completed to the required standard.
  • Planning Surveys across the framework and recording progress against programme
  • Completing necessary project paperwork CPP/WPP/TBS when deputising for the Survey lead
  • Engage with sub-contractors and promoting Stop Think Mind-set on development sites
  • Ensuring that all licences are in place and engage with third party land access management organisations
  • Work towards Rail Assurance Audits competency
  • To promote close calls with frontline staff and supply chain for all development projects where company standards have not been met
  • Firmly adopting and embracing the principle that all of our people should go home safe, every day

Survey Delivery

  • To actively visit Stage 1 survey works during their undertaking on site and undertake audits that they are being delivered in accordance with how the survey was planned and within the company procedures.
  • To check & review that the necessary site reporting (including daily diaries) has been undertaken by the Supervisor for all Stage 1 site works.
  • Ensure the relevant issues highlighted in the daily diaries and other communications has been appropriately escalated to the Pre-Construction Manager for all Stage 1 site works.

Survey Close-out

  • Review all survey data and deliverables that are received to ensure their quality as well as their timely delivery.
  • To check & review that all files/information generated during the survey phase are uploaded to iGO and the agreed Framework Common Data Environment (CDE), and named in accordance with FMS naming convention
  • To ensure all survey site paperwork is received and suitably archived
  • To report on the time and quality of received survey reports highlighting any trending reasons as to areas of high or low performance to aid continuous improvement.

  • At least 5 years' experience in the pre-delivery arena.
  • At least 2-3 years railway Experience
  • Experience of NR_TRK_3100 Topographic Survey Standards
  • Understanding of Ground Investigation Techniques
  • Project Management Experience
  • Surveying knowledge with relevant experience in suitable disciplines, such as Civils, M&E, Geotechnical and/or rail disciplines like permanent way, signalling, telecoms and E&P.
  • Detailed understanding of safety leadership from a policy and behavioural perspective.

Essential Qualifications for the Role

  • Is Degree qualified in a Civil Engineering or related course (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Working towards a professional membership with a recognized and relevant Professional body, i.e. Institution of Civil Engineers
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
  • CSCS card
  • Personal Track Safety and Industry Common Induction
  • COSS or SWL competency
  • Track Safety Card
  • Safety Critical Work
