The range of work is across various sectors including Retail, Distribution / Logistics, Commercial, and public. Our primary services consist of full Electrical Installation projects including HV Systems, Mains Distribution, Generation, BMS, Lighting & Emergency Lighting, Small Power, EV charging, Solar PV, Security, Fire Alarm/Refuge, PA/VA, External Lighting and Lightning Protection.
The contractor works with main contractors and end clients including numerous key blue chip with longstanding relationships, the future intention is to offer the above services across 3 Business units:
- Electrical Solutions, contracting projects from 100k to £3m
- An Electrical maintenance and compliance business offering services to mainly end clients up to £1m
- Energy, specifically focusing on carbon reduction mainly for end clients
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Designer to carry out all design works in house, initially the role will include a hands-on approach with a long-term aim to develop a team to manage all design and technical Business requirements.
As a Design Engineer you will be involved in the initial concept, design, and management of Projects in the range of sectors described above. The correct candidate will need to manage and prioritise a number of projects at any one time and have the experience/knowledge to work from a client briefing document to complete a commercially viable design solution, providing/uploading all design information by way of drawings, schedules and supporting calculations.
Suitable candidates will need to be familiar and able to carry out 2D Cad design, be familiar with Trimble, understand BIM protocol's and oversee BIM design modelling and development where required with a view to develop an in house BIM facility in the future.
Responsibilities will include:
- Liaise with Clients to identify requirements and develop relationships including face to face meetings. Work well as a team member with Project teams, be innovative and provide commercially beneficial solutions through installation/product.
- Identify new systems and processes to drive quality, efficiency and save costs.
- Write Technical reports to summarise findings.
- Summarise scientific and engineering principles in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and contractors involved in a project.
- Have the ability to lead a team of engineers/CAD operator/BIM engineer.
- Plan effectively to ensure Projects are delivered on time, to an excellent standard and to budget.
- Consider H&S implications and complete Designer Risk Assessments.
The successful candidate must have the following experience:
- Experience in Consultancy practice or similar Contractor role.
- Specific technical knowledge and training/certification.
- Commercial awareness.
- An eye for detail.
- IT and CAD knowledge.
- Analytical and numeracy skills including creative problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work in a team, excellent communication skills.
- Good time management with a flexible approach.
- A driven, self-motivated attitude and the ability to use initiative.
